Nose: Fruit forward, lively cherry juice, fresh raspberry and pepper some menthol, chocolate, earth and slate, forest flowers, violets
Palate: Juicy raspberry and cherry, crunchy tannins. Some bell pepper, green olive, smoke. Mint and parsley, tart cherry, raspberry, nicely balanced tannins and acidity. Sweet tobacco and leather on finish
Winemaking Notes: Organic and biodynamic. Hand harvested, fermented and aged in stainless steel. Unfined, unfiltered, zero sulphur added.
Producer Notes: Manoir de la Tete Rouge is located at the foot of Puy Notre Dam, the highest point in the Saumur appellation. The estate was built in 1649, and has been run by Guillaume Reynouard since 1995. Organic certification happened in 2001, continuing on to biodynamic in 2010
Area Notes: Saumur is located at the heart of the Loire Valley, on the southern banks of the Loire river. The star of the region is Cabernet Franc, with Chenin, Gamay and Grolleau making frequent appearances, the former in similarly well-known sparkling wine. It is located on a mound of tuffau, porous calcareous rock studded with ancient wine cellars
