Pearl Morissette’s eye-opening bone dry Riesling, both outcast and celebrated for its perceived ‘atypicity’.

Varietal(s): 100% Riesling

Country: Canada

Region: Niagara

Appellation: Twenty Mile Bench

Nose: Jasmine, chamomile, honey and citrus, slight petrol on the nose.

Palate: Bone dry, searing acidity. Lots of citrus, and crisp pear. Some lemon tea notes. Light leesy flavor, saline throughline

Winemaking Notes: Fermented to full dryness in concrete and foudre. Whole cluster. Aged on lees with no battonage for 20 months. Unfined and unfiltered

Producer Notes: Pearl Morissette has been spearheading the low-intervention wine movement in Niagara since their founding. They farm organically (although without the certification) and use no new oak, fermenting and aging in stainless steel, concrete and neutral wood. Their wines are true expressions of Niagara terroir, choosing to celebrate their origin rather than emulate the wines of Europe

Area Notes: Twenty Mile Bench is a double bench with underlying limestone soils, stepping down from the Niagara Escarpment towards Lake Ontario. High elevation leads to good sun exposure and a long, moderate growing season
