Varietal(s): 100% Gamay Noir

Country: France

Region: Beaujolais

Appellation: Morgon

Nose: Juicy spicy strawberry, raspberry, and floral perfume. Warm earth, stones and dried spice, chocolate and cinnamon.

Palate: Perfumed cherries and red currant. Smooth, succulent and juicy, with lacy, fine tannins. Medium bodied, complex and earthy

Winemaking Notes: Farmed organically and biodynamically. Whole cluster fermented with indigenous yeast. Aged in old, neutral oak. No fining or filtration. Minimal sulfur at bottling

Producer Notes: Jean-Paul Thevenet is one of the original ‘Gang of Four’ producers in Beaujolais who broke with trends at the time towards mass produced, overly light and sweet wine and helped bring the region back to the international spotlight with more serious, robust expressions of Gamay. They also spearheaded the natural wine movement in France, pushing for low-intervention farming, fermentation with indigenous yeasts, use of neutral oak, and a lack of filtration and fining

Area Notes: Morgon is one of 10 Crus in Beaujolais, located on the slopes of the Beaujolais hills. It has a tendency to produce denser, fleshier wines than the rest of Beaujolais. It is characterized by poor, weathered soil composed mainly of granite and schist, with warm, drying winds and plenty of sunlight
