Varietal(s): 100% Sumoll
Nose: Fresh red and black berries. Cherry and pomegranate.
Palate: Distinctive, earthy tannins with bright fleshy fruit and underlying aromas of lavender. Pinot Noir fruit with Nebbiolo structure. Black cherry, touch of smoke
Winemaking Notes: Certified organic grapes. Hand harvested. Destemmed 50%, whole cluster 50% and fermented with native yeasts. Macerated and aged 3 months in century-old concrete tanks. Unfined and unfiltered.
Producer Notes: Founded in 1996 by Ramon Parera and Jordi Arnan, oenologist and agronomist respectively. Abandoned estate with forests, barren land and some small pastures. First harvest wasn’t until 2004. Everything since the beginning has been about restoring the vineyard and the land in general into a holistic agrarian system: dry farmed, not plowed to avoid erosion and foster stronger soil micro-biology. All plantings come from cuttings of old vines in the region.
Area Notes: Penedes is considered to be the most important wine region in Catalunya, in terms of both volume produced (see Cava) and diversity of wine styles. Red traditionally made from Spanish varietals like Garnacha, Carinena, Monastrell and Tempranillo. Whites are traditionally made from Cava grapes: Xarel-Lo, Macabeo and Parellada. Mediterranean climate with maritime influences. Warm summers, mild winters, moderate rainfall. Coastal hills provide significant variation in microclimates.
