Area Notes: The Douro is likely Portugal's most well-known winemaking region, having first made its name internationally with the production of Port. However, Douro produces an equal amount of unfortified table wine, which has been gaining the attention of wine enthusiasts lately. Its terraced vineyards, winding along both sides of the Douro river, are considered to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
