Area Notes: Piedmont is home to Barolo and Barbaresco, as well as the birthplace of Vermouth and the H.Q. of major vermouth companies. Whites are primarily Gavi, Arneis and Moscato. It consists of mountains and rolling foothills: lots of it is unsuitable for growing. Monferrato is one of two southern mountain ranges (other is Langhe), where we find Asti and Gavi. Bussanello is a blend of WelschRiesling and Furmint. Timorraso is an indigenous grape to eastern Piedmont that is experiencing a renaissance in popularity.
